BUT are they legitimate or a scam? we have had countless students come to us after taking one of these “online CPR certification” courses and tell us OSHA doesn't state which organizations can provide CPR training, only that online-only training is insufficient. There isn't a national CPR accreditation process to vouch for the legitimacy of any organization. That's even true of the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, and any website offering these courses. When looking at online CPR certifications, some things to keep in mind to verify whether the certification is legitimate or not, are: a combination of distance plus hands-on instruction; a final test that must be passed in front of an instructor; the seal of the American Heart Association or Red Cross validating the certification; a CPR card/certification that must be renewed (lifetime certifications don't exist). The idea that you can learn a handson skill without practicing it is ludicrous at best. BTW the majority of CPR advertisements may get you to classes that are ok regarding CPR but will NOT work as requirements for employment.
